Office building, Walsall West Midlands
Project Name
- Client: MKG
- Date: March 2025
- Category: Commercial / retrofit office heating
Pre Installation findings:
Business Situation:
The client was facing challenges in maintaining a comfortable working environment. Staff frequently complained about drafts and feeling cold, particularly in the open-plan office layout.
Issue:
To address the discomfort, each desk was equipped with a 1.5kW electric radiator, resulting in an approximate total energy consumption of 42kW per hour. However, the presence of large skylights and windows near workstations contributed to cold spots, and there was no effective solution in place to counteract these conditions.
Heat Dissipation Challenge:
The open-plan design and use of convection-based heating meant that warm air was dispersed unevenly throughout the space. This made it difficult to target specific areas, leaving employees without individual control over their comfort. As a result, the client was spending approximately £350 per week on heating, yet still falling short of achieving a consistently comfortable environment.
