From a single socket
to a full rewire

Solar and storage is the bulk of what we do, but we came from the electrical trade and we never left it. The same engineers handle consumer units, rewires, fault finding and testing.

TWO WAYS IN

For your own home,
or one you look after

Plenty of sites start with panels and add the rest later. That works, provided the first system is designed with the rest in mind — which is the part most installers skip.

In your home

The work most households need at some point: an ageing consumer unit, sockets in the wrong places, a circuit that keeps tripping, or a rewire on a house that has not been touched since the seventies.

Consumer unit upgrades and additional circuits
Full and partial rewires
Fault finding on tripping or intermittent circuits
Phased across multiple roofs or units where that suits you

Certificates issued and notified where the work requires it.

Landlords and businesses

Rented property in England has to hold a valid electrical installation condition report, renewed at least every five years. Commercial premises need periodic testing too, and both need someone who turns up when they say they will.

EICRs with a clear schedule of any remedial work
Remedials carried out and re-certified
Multiple properties scheduled together
Commercial testing planned around your opening hours

Ask about scheduling a portfolio on the same cycle.

WHAT WE DO

The electrical work
we take on

Consumer unit upgrades

Older boards with rewireable fuses or no RCD protection brought up to current standards, with the circuits tested and certified.

Rewires, full or partial

Whole-house rewires on older properties, or a single floor or extension where the rest of the installation is sound.

EICRs and remedial work

Condition reports for homeowners, landlords and commercial sites, with any remedial work quoted plainly rather than buried.

Fault finding

Circuits that trip, lights that flicker and intermittent faults that nobody else has managed to pin down.

Sockets, lighting and circuits

Additional sockets, kitchen and bathroom circuits, downlighters and switching moved to where you actually want it.

Outdoor and outbuildings

Garden lighting, power to sheds, garages and home offices, run and protected properly for outdoor use.

Tell us what you need and we’ll price it properly.

Electrical testing work
Why DW Solar

The electrical side we never gave up

Renewables is the bulk of our work now, but the electrical trade is where we started and the qualifications are the same ones that make our solar installs tidy. It means the person wiring your kitchen is not a different standard of tradesman to the one on your roof.

NICEIC approved contractor

Notifiable work is certified and registered, and you get the paperwork rather than a promise of it.

Priced before we start

A written price for the work, not an hourly rate that grows once the floorboards are up.

Sensible about what’s needed

Not every old consumer unit needs replacing and not every EICR failure is urgent. We’ll tell you which is which.

Useful if you’re going solar later

If a charger, panels or a battery are on the horizon, we’ll leave the board with room for them.

An electrical installation condition report is a periodic inspection of the fixed wiring in a property. It records the condition of the installation and lists anything that needs attention, coded by how serious it is.

If you let property in England you are required to have one at least every five years, to give a copy to your tenants, and to put right anything identified as dangerous or potentially dangerous within 28 days. For your own home there’s no legal requirement, but a check every ten years or when you buy is sensible.

Not automatically because it’s old. What matters is whether the installation is safe and adequately protected — rewireable fuses, no RCD protection, or signs of overheating are the things that push it up the list.

We’d rather test the installation and tell you honestly than replace a board that is doing its job.

Where the work is notifiable, yes. As a NICEIC approved contractor we can self-certify and register the work, and the certificate and building control notification follow without you having to arrange anything.

You should expect paperwork on completion for any notifiable job. If an electrician doesn’t mention certificates, that’s worth asking about before they start.

For a typical three-bedroom house, usually the better part of a week, sometimes longer depending on access, plaster and how much of the property is in use.

It is disruptive work — floorboards up and walls chased — so where people are living in the property we often phase it by floor. We’ll set out the programme with the quote.

Usually. The complication is certification: we can only certify work we have inspected and tested, so there may be some testing to do before we can sign anything off.

We’ll tell you up front what we can certify and what we can’t.

Yes. Extra sockets, a light fitting, an outdoor point or a fault that needs chasing down are all worth a call, and there’s no minimum project we insist on.

If you are also thinking about a car charger or solar panels, mention it when you book. Doing both on one visit usually saves you money.
